Our experienced staff in design and engineering department support our clients in all phases of their project, whether it is stress analysis, thrust block design, preparation of PDMS catalogues, pipeline installation and test procedures as well as project control and management.

Piping Department

Engineers use a variety of engineering softwares in order to design and model pipelines. PDMS which is used by our design engineers in the piping department is one of the most advanced and versatile softwares and is favored by design engineers all around the world when it comes to pipeline design.
Using PDMS (Plant Design Management System the specifications of onshore and offshore project and in respect with all engineering, design and construction details and requirements is analyzed and all required drawings such as isometrics and calculations are produced.
Today GRP pipes are the first choice of pipeline and industrial plant designers. GRP pipes are made of highly specialized raw materials which give to unique mechanical properties. The dimensions of GRP pipes and fittings vary from producer to producer based on production method and technology. Therefore it is important to use the correct dimensional parameters of GRP pipes when using PDMS. For this reason and in order to assist our clients for their in-house engineering departments, an extensive list of dimension and mechanical property of GRP pipes and fittings is prepared in the form PDMS Catalouge.
Generally in above ground piping systems a wide range of supports are used. The main roles of pipe supports are: to uphold the weight of the pipes and firings, accessories, fluid in the pipe, and also to protect the pipeline from excessive mechanical forces. Type, location and support distance depends on many factors.
GRP pipes are supported using hangers or cradles made of concrete or steel and metallic belts and clamps. In order to prevent the outside structure of the pipe from abrasion, rubber pads are placed between the clamps and the outer section of the pipe.
To control the expansion and contraction of pipelines two main systems are used: (1) Expansion loops (2) expansion joints.Design of the expansion joints and expansion loops are based on stress in accordance with ASME B13.3 and AWWA M45.

Following diagrams show the modeling of expansion loop and placement of supports around it.
With years of experience and using the most advanced technologies and softwares , our piping department staff are prepared to guide and assist you with all of your pipeline design requirements.

Civil /structural Department

An integral part of any pipeline design and installation is civil activities. No pipeline can be successfully installed and remain in operation without paying meticulous attention to the environment which it will operate in.
Farassan Man  & Ind Co. provides the following services through its civil engineering department:

  • Comprehensive thrust block calculations and details of construction for above ground and underground pipelines.
  • Construction Drawings.
  • Detail Drawings for special installation cases such as : sub aqueous installation; casing of GRP pipe; Pipe-jacking and trench less installation; pipeline trench, bedding and back fill details
  • Design of pipeline support
  • Design of manhole and inspection pits.
  • Technical and financial Comparative analysis of GRP pipes with other piping systems based on project specifications.
  • Drop calculation

Hydraulic and Process Engineering Department

Leave your process and hydraulic design and calculations to us. Our exports in process engineering department are equipped with the knowledge and the most advanced computer software such as CIVIL3D and Water James to design all of your pipelines and processes. Review of operating parameters such as Temperature, pressure, corrosiveness, and fluid type is done in the initial part of design. Modeling and hydraulic calculation is followed in the next stage in order to provide a complete profile o f the pipe line such as:

  • Fluid dynamics
  • Surge pressure and vacuum calculations
  • Diameter selection
  • Placement of pipeline accessories such as valves, and control instruments
  • Complete P&ID and PDF documents.
  • Pressure drop
  • Pumping station design

Taking advantage of flexibility in production of different grades of composite (GRP/GRV/GRVE) Uniaxial and Biaxial pipes in our production facilities, our hydraulic department works closely with our civil engineering department to design and offer the most economical solutions for all types of pipeline .

Project Control Department

Our Project Control team is there to help you finish your project on TIME and on BUDGET.
In order to avoid any unwanted issues and conflict during the execution time, we pay close attention and spend most of our time in planning phase of the project. That is the reason why our Project control time can easily monitor and control all phases of projects, from production of the pipes to installation and commissioning.

The planning cycle:

Farassan Engineering Service The planning cycle

Scope Statement:

In order to define the boundaries of the project; establish responsibilities for each team member; set up procedures for how completed work will be verified and approved; to identify constrains and to help the project team remain focused and on task, a Scope statement is prepared by the project control team.

WBS & WBS Dictionary:

The WBS is the hierarchical breakdown of the project by deliverables. It is the actual structure we use to organize the project. It allows us to breakdown the scope into more manageable pieces and provides a reporting structure that we use for planning, capturing performance and actuals.

Work Package:

The Unit and building block of WBS clearly distinguishes each activity; identifies start and completion dates with interim milestones as applicable; has a relatively short time span subdivided to facilitate measurement of work performed; has an assigned budget, and is integrated with the schedules of related work packages. Each activity of Work Package is defined in a separate document "Activity List".

Network Diagram:

A network diagram is a sequence of steps (activities), commonly represented by blocks, that are linked together in the logical sequence they need to be carried out. At Farassan Engineering department, Microsoft Project and Primavera EPPM is utilized to create Network diagram or Logic diagram, which is a great way to understand and visualize how the project will proceed.

Resource, time and cost Estimation:

Each activity outlined in the Network diagram is carefully investigated in order to estimate the time, cost and resources required to complete the project. Project control and project management team meet regularly to make sure the project is completed on time and on budget.

Project Critical Path:

A critical path is the sequence of project network activities which add up to the longest overall duration, regardless if that longest duration has float or not. This determines the shortest time possible to complete the project.

Resource Leveling and baseline Development:

Resource leveling is defined by A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) as "A technique in which start and finish dates are adjusted based on resource constraints with the goal of balancing demand for resources with the available supply. Schedule Compression Technique is used to change the logic of the project schedule by overlapping activities. All this information is used to obtain Baseline program in regards with project time and costs. The above data and information is the criteria and the bases for Execution and Monitoring & Control Phase.

Monitoring and Execution cycle:

Project control and Monitoring of Procurements:

Control and monitoring of project, procurement activities and outsourcing the needed resources for project completion is done on a periodic bases called control period. Depending on the complexity and requirement of project the control period may be carried out on short, medium or long time cycles and periods. The input information comes from the planning phase which is compared with actual progress in execution phase. The variance or difference between the two indicates the status of the project. The variance is analyzed through tools such as CPI, SPI, and Earned Value analysis) relevant reports are prepared and preventive and corrective actions are suggested.

Project Management Department:

From the very beginning of receiving an order or inquiry, our Project Management Department (PMD)work starts. Our experienced project management staff use all the knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. Here is a brief list of general activities routinely undertaken by our PMD:
